Hi Charmaine

I am 54 and I was at Christ Church school and I remember a girl called Charmaine. Were you American or did I make that up?

Kind regards

Hi, I am looking for any information on a murder that was commited around 1987, Sheila Farrow was murdered in stockport town centre, she was from bridgehall. I have tried google but nothing.

The info is for a friend who has recently moved back from USA and had no idea her school friend was murdered.

thanks.

Go to Stockport Library and look it up in their archives or go to the Express archives.

For old photos of Stockport, including Portwood go to:

http://interactive.stockport.gov.uk/stockportimagearchive/search.aspx

There are old bridges there but I can't spot the one you mentioned. For any Portwood photos, just put a check mark on Portwood and then click search.

Hi Iam reseaching my family history, I have done quite well but one branch the Meachem/Miller line is proving very hard to trace. Mary Meachem married George Miller in 1947 at Manchester Catherdral. At this time Mary was living in Holland Road, Crumpsall. Mary was the adopted daughter of Charles and Annie Meachem, they ran the Old White Bear, Manchester and the Chetwood Hotel. George Miller was the son of William James and Agnes Miller. The Miller family were painter and decorators and came from the Cheetham Hill/Salford areas. I do not have much info after 1947 but have come across a death for Mary Miller, 10th April, 1985, at The Edgeley Grange Nursing Home, Stockport. Although it states Mary is a widow the certificate does not give Marys husbands name or her maiden name, these are left blank. The name of the informant is Susan Jackson. The age of this Mary fits in with what details I have and she did have relations in the Stockport area. Mary would have held many family photos and documents, so would love to know if this lady was my Mary Miller.
Anyone help, do you know Susan Jackson or anyone who worked in the Nursing home in the 1980s. Maybe some kind person could do a lookup in the death notices in the local library, this may give a few more clues.

.......notorious spooky house.
It was demolished in 1997 and stood in the middle of Garners Lane next to a small church.
It was derelict for many years but it actually belonged at one point to my great aunt Elizabeth Wheelton and her husband Walter Wheelton. Sadly they've both passed away (a long time ago) and I think the house went to a couple called "Dale" - what I'm really desperately after is photos of this house, either inside or outside, no matter what year the photo was taken as we're making a "book" on great aunt Elizabeth and Walter as a surprise for my Grandma but sadly none of us have any photos at all. I'd even be willing to pay a decent price for a good photo!
After Walter died, Elizabeth took in lodgers to keep her beloved house, which she fell in love with as it was being built (they lived only a few doors down as it was built and bought it from the first ever owners) and she left it to the lodgers when she died.
Would love to hear from anyone who remembers this house or anyone who ever lived there, even if they have no photos. Even old rumours and stories are welcome as this "book" is going to be a unique and meaningful present for my Grandma as she always wished she could buy 68 Garners Lane to get it back in the family - Dad tried to buy it in 1978 but something went wrong with the sale, so Grandma will appreciate anything I can get - hope someone somewhere can help x
People can give me info/stories on here or via email - carmelia.marcella@yahoo.co.uk - thanks x
